Keep America Beautiful. Words to live by to be certain and yet it is much more than a slogan. Founded in 1953, Keep America Beautiful is the largest community improvement organization in the United States. It all began as a reaction to the growing problem of highway litter that followed the construction of the Interstate Highway System. Keep America Beautiful is credited with coining the word "litterbug" and with teaching people across the country that "Every Litter Bit Hurts". The organization is probably best known for the "Crying Indian" public service announcement which they launched on Earth Day in 1971.
